Loading ...The most common piece of feedback that the ShopLocal team has faithful received for years from both end users, partners, clients and even internal people is that the circular page images displayed within the SmartCircular sites are too small. From usability testing, what the team has found is that end users actual try to read the circular page images on screen and do NOT often times move their mouse and hoover over the circular pages images, thus triggering all of the rich meta data to pop-up upon mouseover.
So starting today within the Target Weekly Ad site that ShopLocal builds and hosts, this problem has officially been solved. Welcome full-screen circular page browsing. Here are some of the top features that are built into this full screen view mode:
- Auto-sizes to best fit a user’s monitor (or screen size – we’ve tried it out on some 30″+ inch monitors and it looks insane)
- Larger circular page images for increased readability
- Auto-hiding bottom navigational dock (much like the Mac OS X dock feature)
- Built-in keyboard navigation, so no need to use a mouse if you don’t want to
- A simplified user interface that hides a lot of clutter – goal is to focus user’s attention and drive more site interaction
The theory that the team is out to prove is that bigger pages = higher degree of readability = longer site engagement.
Here is how the screen flow happens:
Full screen is not the default view state so a user must choose to engage this view
Then this screen comes up:
Then a quick keyboard shortcuts help menu flashes by as this view opens
Next the full screen mode opens completely:
Then the full screen mode fully opens and auto-expands to fill as much of the available screen real estate as possible
And finally, there are some more advanced methods available for intra-circular navigation
Finally, if a user wants to navigate deeper within the circular, the use can flip pages one at a time OR they can use this handy navigation dock area to jump forward deeper within the circular
